Wejoo Terms of Use
Version 1 · Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
1. About these terms
These Terms of Use govern your use of the Wejoo app and of the website wejoo.app. Wejoo is operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], a [LEGAL FORM] registered in the United Arab Emirates under trade licence no. [TRADE LICENCE No.] issued by [LICENSING AUTHORITY], whose registered address is [REGISTERED ADDRESS] ("Wejoo", "we", "us").
When you create your profile, you tick a box to accept these Terms, including the Community Guidelines (section 9), and our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal data. If you do not agree with them, do not use Wejoo.
2. What Wejoo is, and what it is not
Wejoo lets people give away, for free, items they no longer need to people nearby in Dubai. A giver publishes an item; people nearby ask for it; the giver chooses who will receive it; the two arrange the pickup themselves on WhatsApp; and the handover is confirmed in the app with a code.
- Everything is free. Nothing is sold, bought, rented, swapped or negotiated on Wejoo, and Wejoo charges you nothing.
- Wejoo connects individuals. We are not a party to the exchanges. We do not own, collect, inspect, store, transport or deliver any item, and we do not guarantee the quality, safety, legality or availability of the items. Ownership of an item passes directly from the giver to the receiver.
- Wejoo is not a charity. Wejoo does not raise funds, does not collect or receive donations of money or items, and does not act on behalf of any charity. Giving an item through Wejoo is a private, free transfer between two people.
- Dates are not money (section 5).
3. Who can use Wejoo
- You must be 18 years old or over.
- You need a mobile number that can receive WhatsApp messages, from one of the countries offered in the app. One person may have only one account, and one number may be linked to only one account.
- Wejoo is for personal use. A business or an organisation may give items away on Wejoo under these Terms, but must not use Wejoo to advertise, sell, collect donations or recruit.
- You may not use Wejoo if we have banned you before.
4. Your account
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to you on WhatsApp. Keep your phone and your WhatsApp account secure: anyone who can read your codes can access your account.
- Use your real first name (2 to 30 characters, with no link and no phone number). Your profile photo must respect the Community Guidelines.
- You are responsible for what is done with your account. Tell us promptly at support@wejoo.app if you think someone else is using it.
- You cannot change your phone number in the app. [TECH TO CONFIRM: no procedure exists yet to move an account to a new number (docs/legal/README.md, technical gaps); describe it here once it does.]
5. Dates
- Dates are units used in the app to request items. They keep requests fair: each request uses one date.
- You receive dates when you sign up, regularly over time up to a ceiling, when you complete a give, and through invitations or promotional codes, according to the rules shown in the app. We may change these rules. We will not remove dates already credited to you, except in case of abuse or error.
- A date is held when you send a request, returned if the request is declined, expires or is cancelled, and used when you are chosen. Missing a pickup you committed to can cost you a date.
- Dates have no monetary value. They cannot be bought, sold, transferred to another person, or exchanged for money, goods or services. They are lost if your account is deleted or banned.
6. Giving and receiving
6.1 Publishing a listing
- Give only items that you own, that you are allowed to give away and that may lawfully be owned and transferred in the UAE (section 10).
- Publish 2 to 5 real photos of the item itself, with an honest title, description and condition. Mention any defect.
- Choose a pickup point you are comfortable with. Only an approximate location is shown publicly.
- Every listing is checked before publication, automatically and, where needed, by a person (section 11). We may refuse or remove any listing.
- A listing stays visible for a limited period shown in the app, after which it expires. The number of listings you can publish per day and keep active at the same time is limited.
6.2 Requesting an item
- Request only items you genuinely intend to collect. The number of requests you can have pending at the same time is limited.
- A request expires if the giver does not answer in time; your date is then returned.
6.3 Choosing and handing over
- The giver chooses freely among the people who asked for the item, and does not have to explain the choice. Choosing someone declines the other requests and returns their dates.
- Once a request is accepted, the giver and the receiver see each other's phone number and the exact pickup point, so that they can arrange the pickup on WhatsApp. Use this information only for that exchange.
- At the handover, the receiver shows their 4-digit code and the giver enters it in the app. Givers: enter the code only once the item is actually in the receiver's hands. Receivers: show your code only at the handover. Confirming the code completes the exchange, and the item then belongs to the receiver.
- If you can no longer make it, cancel in the app as early as possible. Repeated missed pickups may cost you dates and lead to restrictions on your account.
6.4 Giving it on
A receiver may, in turn, give the item on through Wejoo. The item's page then shows its journey: the first names and neighbourhoods of the previous givers and the dates of each handover.
7. Ratings
After a handover, each person may rate the other. Ratings must be honest, relate to the exchange and respect the Community Guidelines. They are published on profiles. We may remove a rating that breaks these Terms.
8. Safety at pickups
Wejoo does not verify the identity of its users and is not present at pickups. You are responsible for your own safety. We recommend that you:
- meet in a public place or at a building reception, during the day;
- tell someone you trust where you are going;
- check the item before taking it, and inspect electrical, children's and sports items with particular care;
- never pay anything, and never share your sign-in codes or personal documents;
- leave if you feel uncomfortable, and report the person in the app.
In an emergency, call the police on 999.
9. Community guidelines
Wejoo works because its members trust each other. On Wejoo, you agree to:
- be respectful, courteous and honest, and keep your commitments;
- give items that are clean, safe and as described;
- use other members' phone numbers and pickup points only to arrange the exchange concerned;
- respect the laws of the UAE, public order and morals, and the cultures and religions of everyone.
It is forbidden to:
- sell, or ask for or offer money, a payment, a deposit or anything else in return for an item, including "delivery fees";
- harass, threaten, insult, intimidate or discriminate against anyone, or publish content that is hateful, violent, sexual, obscene, defamatory or offensive to any religion;
- publish false, misleading or duplicate listings, spam, advertising or links to other services;
- publish other people's personal data, or photos of people, documents or number plates without the consent of those concerned;
- impersonate anyone, create several accounts, or manipulate dates, ratings or handovers, for example by confirming an exchange that did not take place;
- use Wejoo for any unlawful purpose, including fraud;
- disrupt the service, copy its content on a large scale, or access it by automated means.
Zero tolerance
Wejoo has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You can report any listing, profile or rating in two taps, and block any user at any time. We review reports within [REVIEW SLA: 24 or 48] hours, remove content that breaks these Terms, and ban the users who publish it or behave abusively. A report about someone's safety can lead to the immediate suspension of the account concerned. We may inform the competent authorities.
Child safety
Wejoo is for adults only. We have zero tolerance for any content or behaviour that sexualises, exploits or endangers children. We remove it, permanently ban the accounts involved and report them to the competent authorities. Report it in the app or at support@wejoo.app. [LAWYER: child-safety point of contact, if required by Google Play]
10. Prohibited items
You must not give items whose possession, transfer or advertising is prohibited or restricted in the UAE, or items that are dangerous. The definitive list will be set by our legal counsel.
[PROHIBITED ITEMS LIST — to be finalised by UAE counsel. Indicative categories to review:]
- weapons, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, imitation weapons, and blades designed as weapons;
- narcotics, psychotropic substances and drug-related items;
- medicines and medical devices [LAWYER: scope];
- alcohol, tobacco and vaping products [LAWYER: scope];
- hazardous, flammable, corrosive or toxic products, including gas cylinders;
- stolen, counterfeit or pirated goods, and items that infringe intellectual property rights;
- recalled or unsafe products [LAWYER: e.g. used child car seats];
- food [LAWYER: scope];
- live animals, protected species and products made from them;
- human remains, organs and body fluids;
- pornographic or adult material, and items contrary to public morals or offensive to any religion;
- gambling equipment;
- identity documents, number plates, SIM cards, bank cards, official uniforms and insignia;
- items that require a licence or a permit [LAWYER: e.g. drones, telecommunications equipment];
- any item whose possession is unlawful in the UAE.
We may remove any listing we consider inappropriate, even if its item is not listed above.
11. Moderation and enforcement
- We may refuse, hide or remove any content, and restrict, suspend or ban an account that breaks these Terms or puts others at risk, without notice where necessary. Requests linked to removed content are closed and the dates held for them are returned.
- Listings are checked automatically and, where needed, by a person. We aim to review listings held for review within [REVIEW SLA: 24 or 48] hours.
- A banned user sees a message in the app saying that the account has been suspended for breaking the community rules, with a way to contact us; the message does not give the detailed reason. If you think we have made a mistake, write to support@wejoo.app: a person will review your case.
- We do not monitor all content in advance, but we act on every report.
12. Your content
You keep your rights to the photos and texts you publish. You grant us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, reproduce, resize, display and share them, in order to run and improve Wejoo, for as long as they are on Wejoo [LAWYER: plus a reasonable period for backups, safety and legal obligations]. [LAWYER: decide whether to include use in the promotion of Wejoo, and on what conditions.] You confirm that you hold the rights to what you publish and that it respects these Terms and the rights of others.
13. Our service
- Wejoo, its name, logo, design and software belong to us or to our licensors. You may use the app only for its intended purpose; you may not copy, modify, decompile or resell it.
- Wejoo is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". We may change, suspend or stop all or part of the service. We do not guarantee that any item will be available or that the service will be uninterrupted.
- The app may need to be updated to keep working.
14. Liability
- Exchanges take place directly between users, under their own responsibility. To the extent permitted by the laws of the UAE, Wejoo is not liable for the items given, their condition or their conformity, for the behaviour of users, or for what happens during pickups.
- To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect losses. [LAWYER: cap on liability.]
- Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under the laws of the UAE, in particular in case of fraud or [LAWYER: gross negligence].
- You agree to compensate us for any damage caused by your breach of these Terms or of the law. [LAWYER: enforceability]
15. Ending your use of Wejoo
- You can delete your account at any time: Profile → Settings → Delete my account, or by email (see wejoo.app/account-deletion). The account is deactivated immediately: your exchanges in progress are cancelled and your pending requests are closed. It is de-identified after 30 days; signing in again within those 30 days reactivates it. Details in section 10 of the Privacy Policy.
- We may close your account in the cases described in section 11.
- The provisions which by their nature should continue to apply after your account is closed (in particular sections 12, 14 and 17) remain in force.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms, for example when the service or the law changes. We will inform you in the app before a significant change takes effect and, where required, ask you to accept the new version. If you do not accept it, you can delete your account.
17. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates as applied in the Emirate of Dubai. In case of disagreement, contact us first at support@wejoo.app so that we can try to find an amicable solution. Failing that, [GOVERNING COURTS: e.g. the courts of Dubai] will have jurisdiction. [LAWYER: Dubai Courts or DIFC Courts; consumer rules]
